Treating Challenging Infections

Our infectious disease specialists are experts in diagnosing and treating potentially serious infections. These physicians work closely with primary care and inpatient physicians and other Saratoga Hospital team members on the treatment, management, and prevention of infectious diseases.

Infectious disease specialists focus on treating conditions that are caused by microscopic organisms—bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. These physicians may be brought in to consult on patients who have serious or unusual infections, to provide follow-up care after patients leave Saratoga Hospital, or to support our infection control and prevention efforts.

Infectious disease physicians treat a wide range of conditions, from fevers of unknown origin to staph infections to long-term illnesses. Examples include:

  • Bone and joint infections
  • Encephalitis
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses
  • Hepatitis B and hepatitis C
  • Meningitis
  • MRSA and other staph infections
  • Tuberculosis

Vaccines can prevent many infectious diseases, including flu, hepatitis A and B, measles, mumps, rubella, and whooping cough. Vaccines and other precautions can also protect you from travel-related infections.
