A Newsweek "World's Best Hospital"
Two Years in a Row

Saratoga Hospital made Newsweek’s list of “World’s Best Hospital’s” in 2021 and 2022. Both times, Saratoga Hospital was the only Capital Region facility to earn the World’s Best distinction.

In 2022, 11 New York State hospitals made the list, up from six a year earlier. Other New York hospitals recognized two years in a row are: New York-Presbyterian-Columbia and Cornell, The Mount Sinai Hospital, NYU Langone Hospitals, Strong Memorial Hospital, and North Shore University Hospital.

An "A" in Patient Safety

Saratoga Hospital earned an ‘A’ for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group for fall 2022. We are one of 19 New York state hospitals—and the only one in the Capital Region—to receive the highest possible grade.

4-Star Quality Rating

Saratoga Hospital has earned a four-star quality rating under the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Hospital Compare initiative. We received four stars overall and in the separate patient survey rating category, making us the top-rated hospital in Northeastern New York.

An Age-Friendly Health System

Saratoga Hospital has earned national recognition as an “Age-Friendly Health System – Committed to Care Excellence.” This designation affirms that geriatric patients can count on us for age-appropriate care that is built on evidence-based best practices, reduces harm, and emphasizes what matters most to patients and their families.

HANYS Pinnacle Award for Quality & Patient Safety

2020: Saratoga Hospital won this prestigious award, from the Hospital Association of New York State (HANYS), for our innovative approach to diagnosing and treating Clostridioides difficile infection. Our novel strategy resulted in significant reductions in unnecessary treatment and related side effects and patient harm .

2019: HANYS recognized Saratoga Hospital for our success in early identification and treatment of sepsis, a life-threatening condition.

Antimicrobial Stewardship Center of Excellence

Saratoga Hospital is the first in the region to be named a Center of Excellence for Antimicrobial Stewardship. This designation, from the Infectious Diseases Society of America, recognizes the quality of our infectious disease team and our commitment to best practices in prescribing medications and helping prevent drug resistance.
 


Nursing

Magnet Award Seal

Magnet® Designation for Nursing Excellence

Saratoga Hospital has maintained Magnet® designation for nursing excellence since September 2004, when we became the first in New York's Capital Region to earn this recognition. Granted by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, Magnet designation is widely regarded as the gold standard for patient care and is reserved for the best nursing teams in the nation. Our most recent redesignation was awarded in August 2020.


Financial Strength

"A" Rating from S&P

Our "A" rating and "stable" outlook from S&P Global Ratings affirm Saratoga Hospital's favorable financial position. S&P noted our strong, consistent operating performance, solid unrestricted reserves, growing admissions, and leading market share. 


Bariatric Care

Blue Distinction® Center+ for Bariatric Surgery logo

Blue Distinction® Center 

Saratoga Bariatric Surgery and Weight-Loss Program, a service of Saratoga Hospital, has been awarded the Blue Distinction® Center designation for Bariatric Surgery as part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program of BlueShield of Northeastern New York. The designation is reserved for nationally accredited bariatric programs that excel in delivering safe, effective treatment.

MBSAQIP Accredited Center

Our Saratoga Bariatric Surgery and Weight-Loss Program has been accredited as a comprehensive bariatric facility since 2014 by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). The "comprehensive" designation signifies that Saratoga Bariatric Surgery & Weight-Loss Center meets rigorous standards for bariatric care and provides the resources necessary to meet the needs of bariatric patients before and after surgery. Our most recent reaccreditation was awarded in 2021.

Aetna has recognized our Saratoga Bariatric Surgery and Weight-Loss Program as an Aetna Institute of Quality® Bariatric Surgery Facility for treating individuals with morbid, or extreme, obesity. The designation reflects our consistent performance in delivering safe, evidence-based care.

 Our cancer services are accredited by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. The voluntary accreditation demonstrates that Saratoga Hospital meets the highest standards for quality of cancer care. 

Lung Cancer Screening Center of Excellence

Lung Cancer Screening Center of Excellence

Our Lung Cancer Screening Program is recognized by the Lung Cancer Alliance as a Screening Center of Excellence. This designation affirms our commitment to responsible, high-quality screening practices to ensure safe, efficient, and equitable screening for lung cancer.

Saratoga Hospital's Mollie Wilmot Radiation Oncology Center has been awarded full accreditation by the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO). This voluntary accreditation, for practices that meet or exceed national standards for radiation therapy, is yet another example of our commitment to exceptional cancer care. 


Cardiovascular Care 

Mission: Lifeline® - STEMI Receiving Center - Gold Plus

The American Heart Association has honored Saratoga Hospital for heart attack care for four years in a row for meeting benchmarks and best practice guidelines for treating patients with severe heart attacks. In 2022, we were recognized at the highest level, with the Mission: Lifeline® - STEMI Receiving Center - Gold Plus award. STEMI stands for "ST elevation myocardial infarction," an especially dangerous kind of heart attack.  

Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plus Target: Stroke Honor Roll

Saratoga Hospital's stroke program has earned national recognition from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association for two years in a row. In 2022, we received the Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plus Target: Stroke Honor Roll award for our commitment to providing the most appropriate stroke treatment, in keeping with the latest research-based guidelines. 


Environmental Services

Clean Facility

Association for the Health Care Environment Clean Facility 

Saratoga Hospital is among the first in the U.S. to earn a Clean Facility certificate from the Association for the Health Care Environment (AHE), affirming our commitment to hospital-grade cleaning and disinfection practices. The certificate attests that we completed AHE's Pathways to Clean program, which was launched in response to COVID-19. The program includes education and training on infection prevention; cleaning, disinfection, and sanitation; emerging pathogens; and preparedness for biological events. 


Gynecology

MISGYN Center of Excellence

Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology

Saratoga Hospital is the first facility in Northeastern New York to earn accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology. Two members of Saratoga Hospital Medical Group - OB/GYN -- Drs. Siobhan Hayden and Anouk Lambers -- are the first physicians in Northeastern New York to be accredited as Surgeons of Excellence in minimally invasive gynecology. Accreditation is awarded by the Surgical Review Corporation, a nonprofit patient safety organization that recognizes facilities and surgeons for providing superior patient care. 


Imaging/Radiology 

Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence seal

Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence

Saratoga Hospital has earned American College of Radiology recognition as a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence.® The designation applies to all imaging services at Saratoga Hospital and on our Wilton campus, as well as to mammography and bone density imaging on our Malta campus. We are the only Capital Region facility to hold this highest level of recognition for imaging quality

Breast Imaging Center of Excellence

Our Women's Imaging Center, on our Wilton Campus, has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. This American College of Radiology designation applies to all Women's Imaging Center services: mammography, MRI, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound, and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.

IAC Accreditation for Medical Imaging

Saratoga Hospital has earned Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) accreditation for our echocardiography and vascular ultrasound services. This designation reflects the overall quality of these services, including patient care, imaging, interpretation, and reporting.


Laboratory Services

Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence seal

CAP Accreditation

Saratoga Hospital's Laboratory Services Centers are accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). Accredited organizations must demonstrate their adherence to comprehensive, rigorous standards that meet or exceed U.S. government requirements. Only 10% of New York hospitals have earned this distinction, which provides an added assurance of quality for patients and referring physicians.


Maternity Care

Blue Distinction® Center

Saratoga Hospital has been named a Blue Distinction® Center for Maternity Care. This designation, awarded as part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program of BlueShield of Northeastern New York, affirms that we meet rigorous standards for quality, patient safety, and outcomes. 


Nephrology

Contributions to Healthcare Award

The Northeast Kidney Foundation presented Saratoga Hospital with the "Contributions to Healthcare Award" for our efforts on behalf of those living with kidney disease and related conditions. The foundation cited our exemplary care for patients who have diabetes, heart disease, or kidney disease and for our commitment to the community.

Saratoga Hospital is the only Capital Region facility to be named a Blue Distinction Center for Spine Surgery. This designation, from Blue Shield of Northeastern New York, recognized our commitment to patient safety, high-quality care, and better health outcomes.

Blue Shield of Northeastern New York has named Saratoga Hospital a Blue Distinction Center for knee and hip replacement. This designation reflects our expertise in total knee and total hip replacement surgeries, resulting in fewer patient complications and readmissisons.

Patient-Centered Medical Home Recognition seal

Patient-Centered Medical Homes

All Saratoga Hospital Medical Group Primary Care practices, along with our Saratoga Community Health Center, have earned recognition as National Patient-Centered Medical Homes. This designation affirms that our primary care practices put patients at the forefront of care, an approach that improves both the quality of care and the patient experience.

Model Practices

All of our Saratoga Hospital Medical Group Primary Care practices, along with our Saratoga Community Health Center, received Humana's 2019 Model Practice designation for their quality-related achievements.

Top Quality Performer

All of our Saratoga Hospital Medical Group Primary Care practices, along with our Saratoga Community Health Center, also received Blue Shield of Northeastern New York's 2019 Top Performer designation for their quality-related achievements. 

Clinical Preceptor of the Year

Our Saratoga Community Health Center received the 2019 Alice Fruehan, MD, Award for Excellence in Clinical Precepting. Presented by the Department of Community & Family Medicine at Albany Medical College, the "Preceptor of the Year" award recognizes a family practitioner's commitment to training future physicians. In a break from tradition, in 2019 all 40+ members of our Community Health Center shared the honor.

AASM Accreditation

Saratoga Hospital Center for Sleep Disorders is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Accreditation is reserved for programs that meet quality requirements widely regarded as the “gold standard” for sleep medicine. 


Technology 

Most WIred Winner 2019 seal

Digital Health Most Wired 2021

Saratoga Hospital once again was ranked among the nation’s “Most Wired” healthcare organizations in 2021. The Digital Health Most Wired designation, from the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIMES), recognizes our achievements in using advanced information and digital technology to enhance patient care and safety. Because we were certified at level 8 for both our acute (hospital) and ambulatory (outpatient) services, Saratoga Hospital also earned a quality award.


Urology 

Most WIred Winner 2019 seal

UroLift® Center of Excellence

Dr. Seth Capello of Saratoga Hospital Medical Group - Urology is the only physician in Northeastern New York to earn the UroLift® Center of Excellence designation for treating patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as an enlarged prostate. The minimally invasive UroLift procedure has been shown to provide lasting relief from BPH symptoms, often with fewer side effects than other BPH treatments.

3-time Auxiliary of the Year recipient

Saratoga Hospital Volunteer Guild has been named Auxiliary of the Year three times - in 2008, 2012, and 2018. Presented by the Hospital Association of New York State (HANYS), the award recognizes outstanding achievements in community outreach, collaboration, partnerships, advocacy, fundraising, and new community initiatives.
