Transport: Place fixed slides in cardboard or plastic slide holder and deliver to Cytology lab.

Comments: Materials needed: tongue depressor, glass slides labeled with patients name, cytology spray fixative. Technique: specimen should be obtained from a fresh vesicle, the base of the lesion should be scraped with tongue depressor, material from tongue depressor should be smeared onto a clean glass slide and immediately spray with fixative, cytology requisition required with specimen.
