Saratoga Regional YMCA and Saratoga Hospital

Break Ground to Expand Impact in Community

Philip-Fear,-MD Angelo Calbone, President and CEO of Saratoga Hospital

MALTA, NY – June 15, 2017 – The Saratoga Regional YMCA and Saratoga Hospital held a joint groundbreaking today at the Saratoga Medical Park at Malta, located at Exit 12 of the Northway. The building, a collaboration between the YMCA and the hospital, will be the new home for the Y’s Malta branch, as well as medical specialty offices for Saratoga Hospital. The two-story, 55,000-square-foot shared facility will be built on the 140-acre Saratoga Medical Park in Malta. This Y will be the first of its kind in the area and will incorporate traditional Y health and wellness activities and programs, as well as a unique level of design, which will create an integrated facility that collectively serves the needs of individuals in the community.

“Since 1866 and 1891 the Saratoga Regional YMCA and Saratoga Hospital have been leaders in health and wellness,” said Alysa Arnold, President, SRYMCA Board of Directors. “Today marks a very significant milestone in our collective history, where we are partnering to create programs and services that not only complement one another but provide a more complete and continuous model of prevention and care. Our partnership with Saratoga Hospital is the exemplification of synergy and we are excited to have the opportunity to create unique programs and services that will make our communities stronger and healthier.”

The new Malta branch will debut a new model for the SRYMCA, designed specifically for innovation and inclusion. The facility will allow the Y to expand its fitness and childcare programs and almost double their outreach. It will also open up opportunities for both organizations to support one another.

Bill Dake, Chairman of Stewart’s Shops, who has helped construct multiple SRYMCA facilities, is working with both the hospital and YMCA on this project. “This flow of patient care from doctor, to physical therapy, to long term rehabilitation on the other side of the café at the YMCA is very effective care, and also makes people more comfortable with the medical treatment, and the Y fitness program appear more professional. It is a pleasure to see such natural coordination between two civic organizations,” said Dake.

The Y and the hospital are both leading non-profits that share a mission and focus to better the community’s health and well-being.  “The official groundbreaking for this new building is a special occasion for Saratoga Hospital and the entire Malta community. Back in 2011, we broke ground for the Malta Med Emergent Care facility next door, partnering with Albany Medical Center to bring important medical services to this community,” said Angelo Calbone, President and CEO of Saratoga Hospital. “Today, we are breaking ground with another valued community partner – the Saratoga Regional YMCA – to further the vision of the Saratoga Medical Park at Malta. Saratoga Hospital is committed to bringing our Regional Therapy Center to this facility, which we believe is in perfect alignment to the programs and services the Y will be providing here. We look forward to announcing in the near future other medical services to be offered here on the Malta campus.”

The YMCA anticipates its facilities to be open the in spring of 2018. Saratoga Hospital is completing its final assessment of which programs and services will be offered at the new location.
