Saratoga Hospital Adds Movement Disorder Specialist to Neurology Team

Dr. Kathrin LaFaver trained at Mayo Clinic, Beth Israel Deaconess and NIH

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y., Aug. 23, 2021—Movement disorder specialist Dr. Kathrin LaFaver has joined Saratoga Hospital Medical Group – Neurology, bringing significant expertise in treating patients with Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia, ataxia and other movement-related neurological conditions. kathrin lafaver

LaFaver joins Saratoga Hospital from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, where she was an associate professor of neurology. Previously, she was the director of the movement disorders clinic as well as the Raymond Lee Lebby Chair in Parkinson's Disease Research at the University of Louisville in Kentucky.

“Although they can occur at any age, movement disorders are more likely to affect older patients—the very people who can find it most difficult to travel outside their community for care,” said Dr. Richard Falivena, vice president and chief medical and physician integration officer at Saratoga Hospital. “With Dr. LaFaver on our team, for the first time those patients can turn to an expert right here in Saratoga County.”

After a residency in neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, LaFaver completed a fellowship in movement disorders at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She went on to complete a clinical and research fellowship at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health. LaFaver earned her medical degree from Albert-Ludwigs University in Freiburg, Germany.

LaFaver is board certified in neurology. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, and a member of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. A founding member of the Functional Neurological Disorder Society, LaFaver also serves on the organization’s board of directors.

LaFaver sees patients at Saratoga Hospital Medical Group – Neurology at 6 Care Lane, Saratoga Springs. For an appointment, call 518-693-4629. To learn more, go to www.SaratogaHospital.org.
