Saratoga Hospital's new CEO Jill Johnson VanKuren has her work cut out for her.
She took the helm during a period of transition and uncertainty for the health care industry, at the tail end of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hospitals are still grappling with severe staffing crises, bed shortages and an impending pandemic-induced fiscal cliff.
VanKuren — who succeeds Angelo Calbone, who retired in August after 16 years — said she believes there are no easy fixes for the big problems facing U.S. health care providers.
"The overall state of health in this country, it's a little scary," VanKuren said. "It's precarious right now. What I talk about a lot with my team is that our purpose is the same. We got into health care for a reason ... we will figure this out as a community and find that path forward from within, because there is no outside answer."
