NYSDOH Novel Coronavirus Hotline at 1-888-364-3065

As you know, the Novel Coronavirus, or COVID-19, has reached the United States. Currently, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) states, “For the general American public, who are unlikely to be exposed to this virus at this time, the immediate health risk from COVID-19 is considered low.” Coronavirus Hotline

That said, you may have questions about symptoms, how to tell if you have it, or other concerns. The New York State Department of Health has opened up a website with up-to-date information about COVID-19 symptoms and cases in the state, as well as a hotline with trained staff to answer your questions.

Call the NYSDOH Novel Coronavirus Hotline at 1-888-364-3065 for any questions or information about the coronavirus.

If you are experiencing symptoms and have traveled to areas of concern, or have been in contact with somebody who has traveled to these areas, it is important to call ahead to your health care provider before seeking treatment in person.

And, as always, it is wise to practice these common defenses against any communicable disease:

    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
    • Stay home when you are sick.
    • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
    • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
    • Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask.
      • CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.
      • Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
      • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

These precautions are your best protection against communicable diseases. You are welcome to call the hotline at 1-888-364-3065 should you have any questions. Traveling?
