Blog: Are Your Vaccines Up to Date?

August is National Immunization Awareness Month, a good time to check in with your primary care provider to make sure your family’s vaccines are up to date. According to primary care physician Susan Muller, MD, parents often focus on their children’s vaccinations while forgetting to keep an eye on their own.

“It is especially important now, in the middle of a pandemic, to maintain your preventive health regimen,” Dr. Muller says. “We know that COVID-19 hits people with mitigating health factors the hardest. Keep exercising, eat right, get plenty of rest and fluids, and make sure you have had all your vaccinations.”

The Centers for Disease Control offer an Adult Vaccine Assessment Tool to help you determine which vaccines are recommended for you based on age, health conditions, job and other factors.

Saratoga Hospital offers Travel Medicine services for people visiting other countries, helping you prepare for your trip with the appropriate vaccinations, medications, and information on healthy travel practices. You can also visit the CDC’s Destinations page for vaccination recommendations.

Whether or not your children are returning to school in the fall, make sure they are protected from serious disease by putting vaccinations at the top of your checklist. Here is an Interactive Vaccine Guide, also provided by the CDC. Your primary care provider will know which immunizations are next on your child’s schedule.
